Remote Work Saves the Day!

People tend not to understand. Being an Artist means that you get no days off. It’s a 24/7 kind of job whether a Creative Commissioning Artist, a Teacher, Administrator, Advocate or Affiliate there is no way to clock in and clock out of Inspiration. It just hits you and you have to be ready. That’s why it ’ s helpful to just check out of life and into a hotel at times. Not to vacation, but to get a good night's rest, wake up and actually get things done. Maya Angelou, Pulitzer Prize Writer said that she couldn’t write in her home because she was surrounded by too beautiful of things. I get it. There are layers to inspiration in if you’re not in the right setting it can mess with your mental space too. Follow IG: @na.bee Travelista Blog or  www.kaylaharley.com Getaway, not to Escape Reality — but to become it.” This is one of my many #beebodi quotes about wellness vacations, remote working travel excursions. Travel is a way of life and renders culture usually inspired by the ...

God, Now more than Ever.

Encountering a Miracle. Embracing the small Miracles of LIFE. A Special visitation, in T&T.   https://www.koditt.org/ There is a lot of talk. There is a lot to say. After all, hundreds and thousands of people have died due to this strange virus (Coronavirus) — that’s displaced, separated people from their loved ones and uprooted a way of life that normally consists of the gathering of families, quality time spent among neighbors and friends, and an intimacy that comes with building community. But no matter “what dem say” . — when you li v e and move by the Spirit then you learn to trust God in all things and expect to see that the Righteous are never forsaken. (KJV, Psalm 13:5) “But I have trusted in thy mercy; my heart shall rejoice in thy salvation. This is the way, the mantra if you will by which Chrisitian’s are when it comes to making the impossible possible. On Sunday, September 12, 2021 a Pastors Mwale and Chantel Henry welcomed the congregation of KODI in their n...

Same Sky. New Place. T&T

I'm back, yall! But with a spin. Who'd ever thought that I'd land here during the most uncomely of times when the Media is insisting danger, concern, tragedy and death. The Coronavirus is relentless--but that doesn't stop this traveler from making moves. Once I set the plan, it's full speed ahead. #Godspeed #overcomingfear #over Sweet T&T--well, Bittersweet. The Pandemic still holds its after-effects on this multi-cultural island, as Trinidad struggles to return back to complete normalcy. I'm not just talking about open businesses with masks but real Trini style. There is no liming in homes, at the bar or in the streets. No fetes to crash, jumping up is "not"-- as the year marks its first year in history of no Carnivale.  Nevertheless--breathing different air under the samesky does some thing to the Mind and Heart.  Especially when that Air is Sea Breeze.   I went to the TOCO for the first time ever yesterday. I can thank Machel for that! ".....

That GLOW

Pictures say 1,000 words. Comment below -- what are these giving you? People have been asking me a lot lately. What's changed? You've got this GLOW. Hmmm.... interesting. Not much. Life is still very challenging and a waiting game in many of ways. And yet I decided as best to show up for myself more instead, take responsibility for my Joy, and despite the things I have no control over be radical about my Self Care. Travel YES, but also active rest. Hydration. Sleep. Laughter. And working on expressing my Love Language Daily.  Oh yea, and Leveling UP my Skills! I taught a Master Class on Somatics at Howard Univ. Day #1 Freshman/Sophomores. It's my Pleasure and Joy to share this work. It adds to my JOY!!!  You've been planning, praying, budgeting, and waiting...now it's time to have a good time.  Time is always precious, but on Travel it's everything. Don't miss out on a good time thinking so much trying to get it right before you do. You'll look up and find that you're over it before you get started. A Foodie's Diary

Life without Food is just--a Fight.  Food is the answer to all Prayers.  If you're tired, irritable, feeling sad, unsure, have mixed feels, need inspiration, want to make amends....whatever the issue is. Just sit down and have a bite to eat--I guarantee you things will get better. A belly full is a great way to move forward. It changes the course of your day if and when you need it. For Travelista it's the closest thing to heaven after a long day in transit. The snacks on the airline are becoming less appealing and with the new model of seating that American Airli nes has (much like Spirit, if anyone has noticed) my posture doesn't lend itself to enjoy a meal there. But as soon as I touch down, I am looking for the best spot to SMASH!!!  Dining is an experience, as it should be. Whether you are standing on the side of the road at a booth, food truck, or at the window of a Bodega in the middle of an island each bite takes you on a culinary journey into history, culture and...

Black Girl Magic Moment w/ CM

Hey Friends! Get into this episode. I love Chrisette but this is also a Great Example of her Artistry. Amazing. First time watching the Terrell Show too -- Enjoy! Kayla

Travel EGO = Travel Disaster.

There love being a Solo Travelista.  Overlook of Christenstead, St. Croix, USVI  There is nothing more freeing than moving at my own pace, rhythm, and timing. I also find that traveling solo doesn't really mean traveling ALONE.  I usually meet people, make friends along the way and discover some sense of community where I go.  That helps when you travel to have a Travel Concept....even when you have your Travel Idea. I talk more about that in my sequel: A Travel Dancer, Do You Boo! dowtown, Government House St. Croix I'm not one to put myself in categories. I wouldn't say that I'm an introvert or an extrovert. I don't follow trends or join fan clubs. At best, I try to respect, make space for, and admire qualities in people that I care about. I realized only recently that personality clashes were a thing....a HUGE THING.  heading back to St. Thomas, USVI  Traveling in Pairs, Groups, Troupes and Tribes are GREAT! In most is usually a VIBE. But when you don't ...

it's still Chocolate City: Local Adventure to the Gallery

Although Travel--for me is a way of LIFE. Every day can be made an adventure if You Make it. Just know that there is something to learn and grow from through each of life's experiences...it's Amazing. It's us who has just got to show up and LIVE It. A walk around the neighborhood, a trip to the Mail Box, or nearby Corner Store or just stepping foot outside of your 4 WALLS to STRETCH can feel Humane. ((Quarantine Blues)) The Weather in DC is beginning to change. Flowers are in Bloom--Cherry Blossoms. The Air is Sweeter, Warmer. And with the successful return of Black Business in the Anacostia neighborhood area Saturday, March 20, 2021, I stepped outside my home to support the movement. Black Excellence is making its mark in our Community with exceptional Artists, Storytellers, and Historians who are dedicated to their craft like William Lee. Anacostia Arts Center: 1231 Good Hope Rd SE, Washington, DC 20020 www.anacostiaartscenter.com      I caught him in the Gallery peerin...

RECOVERY: History Still in the Making

Historic Fort Christian St. Thomas, USVI One of the reasons I travel is to learn....as you know (or if you don't) I am a History Buff. What I appreciate most about being across the borders is the opportunity to see life outside of the "polished, perfect, developed world that we know in the US".  Don't get me wrong, I know that this is FAR from the truth... it's easier to write a story for instance about criminal activity, produce a film, and sell it to the world about seeking justice, changing history, telling a story.  (Fruitvale, When They See Us, Green mile, etc.)  The World's eyes were wide open this year. 2021. The Year of Recovery....from it ALL.  Just be careful. They say that History repeats itself.  Wouldn't want this to end. Enslaved Black People. Shackled. Isolated. Barred.  Holding Cell. Jail. Receiving Site.
