People tend not to understand. Being an Artist means that you get no days off. It’s a 24/7 kind of job whether a Creative Commissioning Artist, a Teacher, Administrator, Advocate or Affiliate there is no way to clock in and clock out of Inspiration.
It just hits you and you have to be ready. That’s why it’s helpful to just check out of life and into a hotel at times. Not to vacation, but to get a good night's rest, wake up and actually get things done. Maya Angelou, Pulitzer Prize Writer said that she couldn’t write in her home because she was surrounded by too beautiful of things. I get it. There are layers to inspiration in if you’re not in the right setting it can mess with your mental space too.

Getaway, not to Escape Reality — but to become it.” This is one of my many #beebodi quotes about wellness vacations, remote working travel excursions. Travel is a way of life and renders culture usually inspired by the surroundings, history, people and energy of a places. This is why hotels go to great lengths to “curate” their spaces to look like galleries, lounges, club venues, VIP rooms and the like more so that just a bed-and-breakfast. It’s meant to reflect the kind of people that pay to stay and should invoke you to tell others about your experience.

As a writer and creative, color scheme, texture, artifacts and architecture are what gets my vote. So this time, I pulled one out of the hat. After a misfire — I landed on Hotel June near LAX airport. It’s right in the Loyola University neighborhood and is the perfect setting for catching up on articles and assignments before heading back home for the holidays in DC. Check it out!
It’s nice to switch the vibe up, lay in bad and work while catching up on Hulu. Then sit up at the desk and take a zoom call. Read emails at the Breakfast Bar. And then kick it on the Peleton at the gym in between. I coudn’t have asked for a better work-play-stay. It beats washing dishes, random distractions, feeding the parking meter at coffee shops or dodging calls from family and friends so you can meet that deadline. So what do you think?
Worth it — or naa?
