Mount Zion in Piparo | a Tour of the The Blackman Ranch

I've been getting around town pretty well since this is my 5th time in Trinidad & Tobago.

Meeting up with Friends and Family. Enjoying the street food and vibrant city life. And learning how - not to take myself too seriously. As Trini's dem say! In fact, I've been having a time with my vlog journey on YouTube bringing people into the experience - Jet Set Go! Series. Go Check it Out.

-but, for my First Official Tour in Trinidad, I wanted to share this with you. I signed up to discover  Piparo with the National Trust Fund which is stationed amongst one of the Magnificent 7 (Mielle Fluer) Houses there across from the Savannah. Guided by a Local Historian, it's great for learning or relearning parts of Trinidad for local residents and can be experienced at a discounted rate for those who join as a member of the NTF.

After an informative drive from POS down South we landed in Piparo and discovered an active volcano where I was able to apply mineral-rich sulfur onto my body. Yes! Talk about organic healing properties.

The highlight of the Piparo Tour was The Blackman Ranch a cultural and heritage site where a musical family who is recognized worldwide preserves their family influences and upbringing. We were met with Love and a Warm Welcome by the Family's eldest siblings: who gave us a mini-tour of the land, accompanied by a musical demonstration from Sheldon Blackman who did a tribute to Lord Ras Shorty I. Dressed in traditional African Garb, he sang some of his original songs and told us stories about their family's upbrining. It was timeless, beautiful and nostalgic.

The yard was an open experience including LIVE Music, a Bonfire, Traditional Trinidiand Foods, and a special dish the Blackmans call - Soca Chicken.

Nailah Blackman - Soca Sensation of "Bodum, Bodum + More Sokah + Sweet Loco

was also there featuring the release of her new product Sweet Loco - fresh-pressed juices of Soursop, Tangerine, Guava, Mango, Passion Fruit. Soon to be made Available in Massey Stores throughout Trinidad and Tobago.

The night ended with a beautiful tribute from Marge Blackman - touching on the Earth Conscious Movement known as the SAVE SOIL Campaign - singing original and cover songs to stir our hearts and get us moving. The entire family musically inclined and in love with Life was a joy to bare witness to.

The Blackman Family wants more visitation of The Ranch and for people to acknowledge the geographical point as a cultural landmark, the place where Jamoo and Soca Music was more born.

The Best of DC: Busyboys and Poets

A STAPLE of Washington DC. For any Artist, happens to the be thee "Busboys and Poets". Yes, they serve Mambo Sauce here too.  This place is near and dear to my heart because it was where I got one of my first jobs while in my youth over the summer. I wasn't quite drinking age which was required for serving alcohol as a Waitress, but Terrance hired me anyway. There, I didn't quite get the essence of being within a TRIBE which is their model instead of "STAFF"--until after I left the job. But I loved it with every ounce of me.  I paid close attention to the flow of things and enjoyed the vibe of Mediterranean Culture mixed with Soul Food cuisine while local-made art hung on the wall and performed during the nearest open mic. I was enamoured by how the restaurant held the essence of DC right there it's nook: corporate lunches held in the terrance, indoor and outdoor seating for friends having happy house  a bookstore sponsored by Global Exchange--a non-pro...

Black History Month Dueces. 22 ---  I felt some type of way... I'd just finished Breakfast ~ A French/Kenyan Crepe, Potatoes + Grilled Tomato, Steamed Carrots w/ Mango Juice, and a sip of Black Coffee. I longed for the beach, but there was work to BE DONE -- the warm water and waves, kites flying in the air, and White Sand so soft you melt into it with each step. But all in all, I knew I had TO get to it! I came to Malindi - not to witness a wedding but a Playwright, an Artist, a Friend, a Host. And every day since I agreed to jump on board, I'd be rocking and rolling. Time is over the Essence. This weekend is the COOL DOWN>>> Watamu, a PLACE so LOVELY + Serene. Energizing & Free. Tomorrow, I book it. Nairobi. Then HOOME. <3 to MD. Day #1 Well, I made it. The Motherland. God willing ~ you cross the Atlantic Sea + Land Safely and discover that there is no reason to Fear. The images of poverty, lack with strips of refugee camp life, beggars and thieves -- enlarged...
