I had the pleasure of attending StepAfrika! closing show for the 2018 year~ Magical Musical Holiday Step Show . It's always a Party with these exciting and riveting performers. They come together from different parts of the country, cultures, fraternities and sororities to bring audiences at the Atlas Theatre on H Street Washington DC what they do best....STEPPING. Arriving early, is always best when seeing a show, and so I did. It allows the audience time and opportunity to dive into the experience be seated and actually browse through the program, learn the details of the show and discover the persons and organizations who make it all possible. Upon entry an interactive table greets audiences at the door where we can quickly craft and design their own instruments and noise makers. Thanks to our passionate and dedicated PGPCS Dance Photographer Rodney Rice Jr. we have some glimpses from the evening of Dance Our Legacy. Audience from the showcase are eagerly awaiting the next endeavor from us and the amount of support and interest in donating to the scholarship fund is humble, yet generous-- a true testament to the caliber of work that was shown. This Fall we are coming together as the Small World that we are....to connect to our Greater Dance Community in the US Virgin Islands. After the devastation of Hurricane Irma in 2017, the course of civilians lives were changed, homes, business and roadways were destroyed and all that is left today is hope that the people have to carry on and the courage that it takes to start a new life.                                       The International Blacks in Dance Association received a call for help from Director of Music in Motion School of Higher Dance Education, Sharlita Schuster: requesting organizations to contribute to their efforts to restore and rebuild what was lost from the disaster.  We as a community, in the DC Metropolitan area are responding to that call by being of service and giving all that we can. I think Gil Scott Heron got it right when he said, "The Revolution will not be Televised". This evening's performance was one not to be missed. As a dancer in the DC Metropolitan area, I have the pleasure of knowing a few of these great dancer's personally who graced the stage with their AfroDance Magic.... However, I got to see them in a new light-one that makes me to understand why they are such spectacular dancers. The energy was palpable from beginning to end, the story line was uniquely designed to educate the audience on the legacy, history, and presence of AfroDance the costumes were vibrant and attractive and of course the music was a non-stop party. Expectant Mother, Dancer, Reiki Naturalista, and Certified Notary-- Ms. Beverly Hunter came in for her first experience with GYROKINESIS® with theGKBabe. She was greeted with the sounds of Native American Flute and a smile as she filled out her intake form at the Elements Wellness Center Studio. Now in her final trimester of pregnancy she is finally coming to glacial pace whereas she can prepare to deliver her first child. She comes with a good report of have already having strength, endurance and a pain-free preganancy course taking part in such as activities as Yoga, Reiki, Meditation and regular walking. It was a night of intergalactic experiential WONDER. Congratulations to Deviated Theatre for celebrating their 10th Anniversary! What a fantastic way to ring in the first decade of work at Dance Place amongst friends, family, loved ones and supporters. Myself, along with other fellow Practitioners of the Elements Wellness Center came out to support our beloved Kimmie for the World Premiere of BEYOND. It was a personal pleasure to experience the unfolding of her brilliance as a Choreographer. The house was welcomed by Co-Artistic Director Enoch Chan, swarming in like a Jurassic Park themed hurricane rollercoaster. He requested that we explode with excitement--as we should, like comets shooting out into space. Today's Workshop at the Smith Center for Healing & the Arts was led by Chef Brandi Redo. This was Brandi's second time offering the community a special cooking course entitled, "Cooking with Healthy Hues"-- encouraging the use of color in our food choices to bring in variety and multi-sourced nutrients. With (5) participants joining in with Brandi on an adventure in the kitchen with foods that hit just about every color in the Rainbow, the class turned out to be a HIT! Although one might flinch at the idea of spending 3 hours in the kitchen when it's not the holiday season, Chef Brandi had a fun-filled interactive experience in store for all who came to be a part of the workshop....including myself. *the designated helper, preparer, washer and support* Brandi was such FUN.
