Awakening the Body

I began my day with the Spinal Motion series from the 60 minute GyrokinesisⓇ Stool Work. It's truly rewarding to sit with the material and play around with new ideas that come to mind.  As I went through each exercise I discovered visual cues that describe movement patterns and how the body could interpret the movement as it relates in daily activity, thus translating it in an accessible way for my clients and students. Every body is different nevertheless GyrokinesisⓇ offers one a fundamental breakdown of basic movements such as bending, stretching, lengthening, pushing, pulling and so forth.  Although size, shape, height and weight of clients may differ one thing that remains the same is anatomy,  the construct of the muscular-skeletal system and the energetic points of the body.  The core principals of this movement modality is such that the each part of the body is designed to move in tandem, even without knowing the given names of bones, mus...

YoungArts Week w/the GKBabe

I had a fantastic time in the city that never sleeps, the big apple....alright--okay New York City. This time, instead of rushing to studios for auditions, clipping numbers to my leotard and hoping for the best I was mentoring the next generation of dancers, performers and young artists. In 2009, I become a YoungArts Modern Dance Finalist winning the chance to travel to Miami, FL for workshop master classes with Sidra Bell and Larry Kegwin and perform my choreography "Serious Perplexions". At that time I had my eye on colleges for dance and was looking to rack up as many scholarships as I could and indeed I did go home with $750 prize with which I used to pay my housing deposit in full. So very proud of myself as a first generation college student learning and navigating my way around in the real world, pursuing further education and best of all doing what I love most....dancing.
